 BOSCO

I adopted Falco (formerly Boscoe) from your shelter a little over a year ago. I found him on petfinder.com when I was looking for a Corgi and I stumbled upon him, a Corgi/Husky mix, and I could not resist! I drove over 2 hours to your shelter several times because of a situation with my landlord, but in the end I got the dog I immediately fell in love with. He's doing great, I don't know what I would do without him. He is my best friend and follows me everywhere, and is the best cuddler! He's the most loving dog (to humans at least, he still can't get along with other dogs which makes it difficult for nice walks in the park!) and has definitely made my life a lot more complete. Everywhere we go people stop and ask what kind of dog he is because he is such a unique mix! And all of the people he meets can't help but love him back. I am very happy with my decision to get a dog and can't imagine having any other dog's personality to fit mine!

Thanks,
Katie

  DUKE

Hi AAF!

Just wanted to check in and let you know how Duke is doing! I adopted him May 2008 and I couldn't have asked for a better roomie or friend! Duke is loved by everyone he meets, and loves all animals and people he meets. He thinks my sister's cat is his girlfriend, which she tries to ignore, haha. He is affectionately known by my close friends and family as  "Dukey-Boy" or "Big Boy". He loves playing at dog parks, getting his belly rubbed, and playing in water- especially the creek! He sleeps on the other side of my bed and is always at my side. He got his picture with Santa this past winter when you guys were at Petsmart! You told us he was the biggest dog that came. He is a big baby! I've attached a few pictures of him. I can't wait to adopt a brother or sister for him to bond and play with!

WINNIE

Hello AAF,

We adopted our little dog Winnie (formerly Cupcake) on May 25, 2008 which was over the Memorial Day weekend.  She was
just 2 pounds, 10 weeks old, and recently separated from her Mother who was a White Chihuahua Mix.  They said her father was some kind of Terrier (not sure what type).  She was whining in a cage with her brother and sister at the time we came in,
and it just broke my heart since they were so young.  Winnie won me over with her perky personality, and she really got attached to my husband as soon as he picked her up.  We had to have our older dog put to sleep 2 months earlier (she was 13 years old).
We knew that we had to adopt Winnie to be our new "Little Girl".  She has turned out to be so sweet and very smart, loving, funny, and full of energy.  She is also the happiest dog I have ever seen.  As soon as she wakes up in the morning she is just a happy bundle of joy.  We take her to visit my Mom at her Assisted Living Home and all of the older residents there get so excited to see her when she arrives.  She really makes them smile and brightens up their day.  Of course, Winnie loves all of the attention too.
She is over a year now, and weighs about 7.5 pounds according to her recent annual Vet visit.  We have a big fenced in back yard where she loves to run and play ball with a miniature tennis ball
we got especially for her size.  We just love her so
much, and are so glad we stopped at your facility last year and found her.   I'm enclosing a picture of her smiling with her ball in our back yard.  We took this picture in March 2009 when she was turning a year old.  I hope you enjoy the picture.  It shows how happy she is every day. Thanks for all that you do for the homeless animals that you take in and help find good homes.  You really make a difference in their lives.  We will be stopping by with a donation soon.

Sincerely,
Robin, Mike, & Winnie

COOPER

We adopted our Yellow Lab "Cooper" a few years ago and he's been the love of our life.  He goes just about everywhere with us, even boating.  (He has his own doggie life jacket)  We decided Cooper needed some canine companionship so we took him to AAF to find a friend.  Eric showed us Bogey (then Potter) and told us he was found at Potter's golf course in Dec. and was lucky enough to end up at AAF where he came into our lives. It was instant friendship.  Cooper and Bogey played immediately and we said we'd take him home for a "test drive".  Well that was all it took; we had another kid in the house.  Now we can't wait to go boating with him too, and yes, he already has his own doggie life jacket.  :)

Thanks everyone at AAF.

ELLA

Hello!  We adopted Ella from AAF in August of 2006.  Ella lived at AAF for over a year before we brought her home.  We recently adopted a puppy and it has given us a whole new appreciation for how lucky we are to have found Ella.  She is so great with Dixie (the puppy); sharing her food, toys and even her bed.  I just wanted to thank everyone at AAF for taking such wonderful care of Ella while she was at your shelter.  We are so grateful to have her in our lives.  To this day I am still shocked that Ella remained at AAF for so long without getting adopted, but I am so happy that there is a place like AAF where unwanted animals are given a second chance and can stay as long as necessary while they wait for their forever family to find them.  Keep up the great work!
Thanks again!

TUESDAY

Eric, you were right...we had a great Christmas with Tuesday!  The transition has gone smoothly...only  a couple of mild grumblings with her new four legged sisters.  An added bonus....she is already housebroken!  She will even alert when she needs to go out!  She is a great addition to our family...so full of love!  Thank you for helping us find her!  I'm attaching a picture of Tuesday with her Christmas presents.

Bless all of you for your hard work and dedication!

BETTY

Hello AAF,

I just wanted to write about how much joy Betty has brought to me and my wife.  We adopted Betty a year and a half or so ago and she is our constant companion.  She is a snuggle bug and goes with us where ever we go.  We recently went on our Honeymoon and Betty went with us.  We found that she is a true Salty Sea dog!  She helps us keep in shape by always reminding us when its time for her to go on her hike when we get home from work.  Thank you all so much for saving her life and giving us the opportunity to have this wonderful member of our family!

MAX  (formerly Alex)

Hi!  I just wanted to thank you guys.  What a wonderful "calling" to care for these critters!  I do think it is from God that you are callled to take care of all his creatures.  A few months ago, I adopted a shy but handsome guy you called Alex.   I have a niece by that name, so now he goes by Maxamillian, or Max with close friends.  He has been very timid, and slow to warm up, and has his quirks, like all cats, but he finally started to PURRRR!  I had never heard him do that until recently, so I wanted to share with you, he is very comfortable, and though slow at first in now affectionate and at times playful!  I love him!  Thanks, you guys.  He means so much to me...  check out the pics

SASHA "SHENANIGANS" SHARPEI (formerly MIMI)

Hello,
Just wanted to give you an update on Sasha "Shenanigans" Sharpei, formerly known as Mimi.  She's settled in very well to life on Mt.Auburn, developing an ardent interest in long walks and trips to the dog park.  She is decidedly opposed to baths, though. Unfortunately. But we love her very, very much and think she's a great addition to the futon and our lives:)  Thank you for matching us up!

HUNTER

Hello!  This is Betsy Courter!  My family and I adopted Hunter!  I am so sorry it has taken us this long to get back with you.  We are absolutely in love with him!  He is wonderful.  We couldn't ask for a better dog to have around our children.  He loves to be loved that is for sure.  He is always giving everyone kisses.  He has adjusted wonderfully.  He has even taken over one of the couches for his own.  He knows and obeys the rule of not getting on any other furniture!  We had a few accidents the first 2 nights, but none since.  We have left him at home several times now to run errands and so on and he was just great.  No accidents and nothing was chewed on.  We are so happy to have Hunter as part of our loving family.  I am also enclosing a few pictures of Hunter for you in his new home and with his new family!  Thank you so much for the opportunity to add another member to our family.  I would say it is very much so complete now  with Hunter around.

CATDILLAC

Thank you, AAF, for all you've done for countless kitties.  It was five years ago today, Saturday 1/31/04,  that the Markesbery's came to get me at the shelter on Chapel Rd.  - can you believe that!?  They've been so excited about AAF ever since.  It was no doubt hard to do but you hung in there until your situation improved with your beautiful new place.

Here I am in my Catillac watching TV.  We'll be celebrating our anniversary with a round of Reddi-wip for everyone tonight (it's my favorite dessert)!

Always grateful,
Charlie Markesbery

Hope you enjoy!

TEDDY

I've been meaning to send this email for ages, but life has been hectic with the holidays and our new little girl who keeps us happy and busy.  I wanted to let you know that David and I went to Michigan in November to visit family and got a chance to stop in and visit Teddy.  We were SO happy that we made the little trip out of the way to see him with his new family because his home is pretty perfect for him.  When we arrived, it was just starting to snow and we walked into the fenced, 3 acre yard to see Teddy running as hard as he could around the enormous perimeter of the yard.  After we spent some time with him in the house, he seemed to remember us a bit and we got caught up on how he was doing.  He's had some run-ins with the dominant border collie, but it doesn't sound like anything terrible has happened between them.  (I haven't gotten an update since Christmas, but last I heard things were going great.)

So, without going on and on, I wanted you to know what a great home he landed in.  Aubrey seems to be doing really well with him and wanted me to let you know they were happy to have him.  Her house and yard are a heavenly place for big dogs to roam and relax.  I've attached a few pictures for you to see from our visit.

CLEM

We just wanted to send a quick note (and pictures) to let you know that it has been just over a year that we brought Mickey (the dog formerly known as Clem) home from your great facility!  Victoria and he are inseparable.  They take long walks and love to go to the dog park up in town.  The funny thing is we were told that he would 'never be a lap dog'...boy that just goes to show you can't judge a book by it's cover.  He is a major snuggle bunny and at night when it is time for bed he is burrowing under the covers and getting as close as he can to your legs!

Thank you so much for saving his life he is truly a wonderful addition to the family!

ELLIE BELLIE

Right after we got married, my husband and I were looking for the perfect addition to our new family....Ellie was definitely it. She has been part of our family for almost a year- she loves walks, cuddling, playing in water as well as other dogs and she is spoiled rotten. We love her so much and want to thank your shelter and all of the volunteers for taking care of her and all of the other dogs- making it possible for them to have a happy life with a loving family.
Thanks again- We love our little Ellie Bellie!

ISABELL

It's been awhile since we brought Isabell home with us. We adopted her the beginning of June in 2008. She was 6weeks when we took her home and have loved her ever since. She is very special and I want to thank you for saving her life. I hope her mother and siblings are doing as well. She loves to play fetch and is a bit clumsy at times. I love her so much and we appreciate every day with her. She is the brown and black shepherd mix, with our other dog Emma.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Gray

SARGE

Sarge Is Livin’ Large!

The story of how a dog became a man’s best friend!

We all love to hear great rescue stories. Stories of how some pets overcome all odds and obstacles. We want to share a story with you about Sarge, a dog near and dear to all of us at the Animal Adoption Foundation.

Sarge was one of three German Shepherds we rescued out of an unfortunate situation in Greenfield, OH. In all, sixteen Shepherds had been tied out to trees, sheds, even an old car, basically anything that would hold them so they had no more than six feet on which to live their lives. Food and water were scarce, but even rarer was any type of human interaction. The sole purpose of these dogs was to breed and nothing more. Fortunately, through the efforts of several organizations like the Animal Adoption Foundation, all sixteen Shepherds were rescued from and taken to safety.

Once at the shelter, Sarge was taken to veterinarian and was diagnosed with an advanced stage of heartworms. Poor Sarge. After several months of treatment, Sarge was declared heartworm free and the mission to find him a forever home began. The other two Shepherds that came in with Sarge, Hutch and Natasha found homes rather quickly but Sarge was another story.

Though Sarge became a volunteer favorite, he longed for a home where he could do what he does best, cuddle. He loves to just lie around and be doted on and AAF volunteers did plenty of that. For one reason or another, Sarge was often overlooked when folks came to the shelter in search of a new family member. How could this be? Such a beautiful boy with so much love to give…his break had to be coming soon.

And that break did come when Thomas Hasley visited the shelter one day looking for a companion, a best friend. Mr. Hasley, disabled and living alone, had lots of time to devote to a new dog. While looking at the dogs at the shelter, his eyes were drawn to Sarge. They looked at one another through the glass window and that is where this love affair began. Sarge and Mr. Hasley hit it off right away. Sarge was very gentle with Mr. Hasley and did everything in his power to convince Mr. Hasley to give him a chance but it didn’t take much convincing as Sarge jumped up in Mr. Hasley’s car and away he went.

Sarge spent a year and a day at the Animal Adoption Foundation waiting for the right person to walk into his life. Now he enjoys a large fenced yard, lots of neighbor kids to play with, a big comfy couch on which to nap and of course knowing that he is loved. "Sarge is my best friend and we both needed someone to love" states Mr. Hasley. "I can’t even imagine Sarge not being with me, it simply wouldn’t be home without him."

Good luck Sarge and thank you Mr. Hasley for giving him a second chance.
