MILEY

Hello AAF!!!!

I just wanted to drop a line to let you know how much we adore Miley!!!  Thank you for giving this old girl a chance!!! She has become the neighborhood sweetheart on her daily walks and we just adore her and are so happy we adopted her. You have such a nice facility and I am so grateful that you had this darling dachshund. She is a charmer and a real "daddy's girl" although she just loves all people. She flops on her back and shows that belly while wagging her little tail wildly waiting for a belly rub. I wanted to send you a couple pictures to let you see how she has fit right in to our empty nest :)

Thank you,

Carolyn Fohl

TYSON

We adopted Tyson just over a year ago from AAF.  Growing up I always had small dogs and was weary of shelters and especially those evil pit bulls!  When we got Tyson I was still a bit unsure.  But AAF and staff were the opposite of what I ever expected from a shelter.  Amazing people that truly care about their animals.  Since bringing Tyson into our lives I went from the ignorant pit bull fear-er to quite the pit bull and dog activist.  Tyson is a dog separate from all others and is so sweet and love able.  He has made our family whole and taught us so much about his breed and the power of knowledge and love.  Because of Tyson and AAF I have recently started my own private rescue.  Saving primarily pit bulls and bully breeds.  We even adopted Jazz a pit bull/lab mix as Tyson's play buddy a few months ago.  I am even going to be volunteering at AAF as well.  We thank you so much there isn't a better place.  And we thank you for caring for Tyson before we were so fortunate to meet him!

AMOS

Note: Amos spent 4 years at AAF before he was adopted!

Hello! We were thinking about you all and thought we'd send some love your way. Amos is more relaxed and loving every day. Hope you enjoy the slide show and thanks for never giving up!

                            -Louisa and Randy

IZZY

My Name is Amanda, my finance and I adopted a Cat from you several months ago. We adopted Izzy! We kept her name because it just suits her, and well she knows her name! I just wanted to let you all know how good she is doing She and our other Kitten Pumpkin are the best of friends! They will lick each other, and then take off chasing each other all over the house! We adore her! She has gained a few pounds since we adopted her, and is quite the "Love Bug" She loves to be petted and loved on constantly, and demands it if you are not paying enough attention to her :). We love Izzy, she has been a wonderful edition to our family! I couldn't imagine what it would be like without her in our lives!.. she's one of our beautiful babies!.

VIRGINIA (Bootsie Q)

Virginia--aka- Bootsie Q--for her black markings on her hind legs--has adapted well to us and our grandchildren.  She rules the home, has gained substantial weight and is the most calm feline we have ever had.  She is not even fearful of vacuum cleaners.

Virginia does pose one challenge--she loves to run out the door if we are not looking, but never goes too far.  Hopefully she will remain an inside cat.  All of us will keep her tired and entertained by getting her to chase assorted toys, especially the bird on a string.

She has been a delightful addition to our family and tends to favor me with lap time, but gives Brenda her due by combing her hair and licking it.  I tell Bren that she needed grooming anyhow and Virginia earns her keep that way.

Last night she groomed my son Chris's hair while he slept, provoking much laughter.  She brings a lot of joy with her antics.

Yours,
Bert & Brenda Cameron

GARFIELD (Moose)

Hi Jo this is Dennis just writing about how happy the family is since we found Garfield formally known as moose? I never could figure that one out. We also found a real celebrity who is Frankie Baby! Or Beautiful blue eyes he loves either. Garfield and Frankie make their rounds every night to sleep in all of our beds with us. We cherish them and I would think they would get sick and tired of my little girl Shelby who is 5 who always puts her hands on both sides of their faces and rubs noses and talks to them like they are babies. My son Dean who just turned 13 march 19th has a permanent basement roommate in Frankie. It makes since Garfield spends most his time pretty close to the kitchen upstairs and Frankie is most commonly found around the bar room in the basement. Yah go figure big stretch there huh.

Thanks again,
Richards Family.

Subject: Update from Kuiken (Formerly Emi) - Adopted June 30, 2007

Dear Animal Adoption Foundation,

I'm writing with an update on Kuiken (formerly Emi). I first saw Kuiken on Petfinder when I was visiting family in your area. I had been looking for a long time for just the right shelter dog. After 5 minutes with Kuiken, I was filling out the paperwork. Kuiken and I flew back to Massachusetts together a few days later. Kuiken won over the air hostess on our flight and got to come out of her carrier. She slept on my lap like an angel for the rest of our travels. Once home, I decided to change her name for her new start on life. Kuiken is Afrikaans for "baby chicken", which was particularly fitting at the time. It took a few months for her to completely come out of her shell. Nowadays she acts like a big dog in a little dog body. She is quick to defend the house from any doorbell-ringing intruders and she likes to chase anything that moves, sometimes even joggers! Her favorite activities include treeing squirrels, earning treats, and snuggling with her mom. She is quick to let me know what she wants and almost never has an accident in the house. She is still slow to warm to strangers but once you've earned her trust, she'll give endless kisses. Kuiken goes with me everywhere that she is allowed and not a week goes by without someone asking about her "haircut". Since she was adopted, she has grown some hair on her face and legs but no hair on her body. I consider this phenomenon to be a special look for a truly special dog. Kuiken is such a wonderful companion and I can't imagine my life without her. Thank you so much for taking care of her until she found her forever home. Kuiken and I made a special video thank you because words just didn't seem to be enough.

Sincerely,
Eliza & Kuiken

Ella

This past summer while I was living in Oxford I stopped by AAF to play with the dogs and take one home for the night.  I spotted Ella from down the hall and thought she looked in need of some love.  A month later we adopted Ella and she has become the queen of the household.  She has gained at least five pounds since moving in with us and goes through two rawhide bones in a week!  She has been better behaved than I could have ever dreamed.  She is very gentle with my 8 nieces and nephews but makes a well matched wrestling partner when the time is right.  She even loves to "kiss" the house cats at the animal hospital where I work.  Although she was a little shy at first, she now cuddles up with us in bed and anywhere else she can!  She has many toys donated by her proud "grandparents", her favorite of which is named "Burt". She loves to play frisbee outside. She is such a sweet, loving girl and we are so happy to have her.  Thank you for taking such great care of Ella while she was at AAF and helping us to find the perfect dog for us.

Sincerely,
Annie Walsh and Adam Cahill

Petey (formerly Stevie)

My fiancée and I adopted a Jack Russell from your foundation almost exactly one year ago. Our lives have been so awesome with him (his name was Stevie when we adopted, but since he was still a pup, we started calling him Petey, which suites his personality!) I just wanted to let you all know how grateful we are to have our little Petey, thanks to your wonderful foundation! Your professionalism and kindness was remarkable, and you have a great facility. Petey is now a part of our family, and he even gets along with our cat Lani! They've become good buds. I couldn't imagine our lives without Petey!

—Sincerely, Sarah Stevens

Daisy

My husband and I adopted Daisy the beginning of May 2006.  She is a German Shepard/Corgi mix.  We were looking for a companion for our 5.5 yr old miniature long haired Daschund Nitschke.  We started looking for a new dog to adopt at the beginning of April 2006.  We visited your shelter every weekend as well as others.  Then at the beginning of May we saw Daisy.  Energetic, social able with a big doggy
smile.  Lucky for us and Daisy Nitschke warmed up to her in no time.  Daisy brought him out of his depression and has become his best friend, roommate during the day, they run through the woods together, enjoy 2 - 3 mile walks 3 times a week and love to play tug-a-war.

Everyone that meets her falls in love with her.  I have to admit with the big doggy smile and the friendliness by rolling over so everyone can rub her belly as a hello welcome to me home is hard to resist.

— Doug Sayre

Katarina (Formerly Hope)

Kat celebrated her 2nd birthday on November 23rd and posed in a pretty fairy costume.  ( I don't think she liked it)  We adopted a 4 year old male German Shepherd from a high kill shelter here in town.  Kat has become the very best dog that anyone could ask for.  She's well behaved, loving and no longer high strung.  She and her brother Gunner love to go in and out of the doggie door and play outside, go for car rides and just sit around with the family.  Today they both got baths because they enjoy playing in the mud too.  :)  They play constantly and it's funny because when Gunny jumps on us or up on the counter or does something that he's not supposed to do, Kat quickly corrects him.  She's such a smart girl.  She's a wonderful beautiful fur-daughter that is forever a Holstein!  Kat has earned her spot in the bed with us and is a VERY happy girl.

—Holly Holstein

Copper (Formerly Chaz)

We recently adopted Copper from the AAF and he has quickly fit right into the family! He acts like he has lived here forever and even the cats are tolerating him!  Our little christmas present fell asleep right under the tree!

—The Preston Family

Boscoe

This is our boy, Boscoe!  We adopted him on December 22, 2005.  He was about 3 months old at that time and now he's just like a spoiled little toddler!  He has one "brother" (dog) and two "sisters" (cats) and he enjoys aggravating them daily!  He loves to lay by the fireplace and he sneaks up on the couch when mom's not looking!  He's so cute and sweet and mischievous all at the same time and we love him dearly! —Barb Toemer

Mia (Formerly Bree)

This past April, one of my college housemates decided to participate in your doggie date program one random Thursday. She returned with an adorable, lovable dog, Bree, with whom we all immediately fell in love. All of us were seniors, and were unsure of our future plans and didn't think any of us could personally adopt her, but we also knew that it would be heart breaking to return her to the shelter. My family had recently suffered a defeating loss when our 14-year-old mutt, Spooky, had died in October of the previous year. Although it would be hard to get a new dog I knew that my parents had to be the ones to adopted her. Coincidentally, my parents were arriving in Oxford that Friday for a weekend visit.  At first, my parents were not thrilled at the idea at all.  But that all changed as soon as they met Bree and saw how incredible she was, they agreed to take her home with them. These days, Mia is doing great!  She has become their spoiled little girl, and helps fill the empty nest. At first, Mia had no sense of home, and often attempted to run free. Now, she is the exact opposite. Mia demonstrates great loyalty to our family, and has no more urges to run (unless she sees a squirrel, of course!) She is the most lovable dog we could ever ask for. She follows everyone around the house, right there at our feet. Mia is smart, and gets excited every time I pick up my i-pod because she has learned that it most likely means she will be going for a walk.  Thank you so much for introducing us to one of the greatest additions to our family.

 —Vanessa Schutz

Madison and Hank

Hank and Madison are truly the best things to come into our lives. They are both just such BIG LOVERS. It's funny to also see just how lazy the 2 of them are. Let's just say that Krissy and I have been officially kicked off of our couch. Madison, my 7 year old Beagle Mix, is and always will be my baby girl. From the first time I laid eyes on her I knew she was mine to LOVE. Now onto HANK "The Tank"... WOW, what can we say about Hank? He's a BIG BOY I tell ya, but don't tell him that. Hank still thinks he's a little pup. Hank is a 3 year old Rottweiller that is filled with so much Love. It's funny to see people look at him in fear cause of his size and breed, but let me tell you that there is nothing to fear about him. He is so friendly to everyone that comes in contact with him. And when people come in he's the first to greet you and looks for affection from you right off the bat. Thanks ANIMAL ADOPTION FOUNDATION for giving us the 2 Cutest, Loving, and Loyal Best Friends we could ever ask for.

. —Kurt and Krissy

Sable

SABLE

Sable joined our family on July 12 when the AAF had a program in front of the Colerain Lowe's Home Improvement. I was immediately drawn to her adorable face but it was her obvious good temperament and intelligence that convinced me she belonged with us.

She joined two other chow mixes, Theda and Judas, who were wary of the new addition to the household at first but she won them over. She has adjusted remarkably fast and it's almost as if she's always been there. She loves scrambled eggs and lounging on the porch swing. She hates having her teeth brushed. She still hasn't mastered climbing stairs but she can bounce like she has springs in her paws. My husband and I and the two other dogs love her and from the near constant wagging of that nubby tail, I think she loves us too. —Erma Sanders

JOEY

It's been about 5 months and Joey has proven to be a great addition to our family!!  He was a great dog from Day 1, but with the help of Mel @ Training Tracks,  he's one step closer to being the perfect dog!!
He loves to going on walks, keeping the yard free from birds/squirrels and he definitely can't get enough of dog parks!!  He loves making new friends, whether it's another dog or someone we pass on our walks!  He's been a great unofficial ambassador for AAF; everyone always asks me where I got such a great dog...so hopefully all the people Joey's been impressing will be stopping in to adopt some of Joey's friends!

Thanks,
Ben

CALVIN

Well, it has been one year since I adopted Calvin from AAF. What a year it has been! Calvin is the same rambunctious boy full of energy that came charging at me the day we met at AAF and I would not want it any other way. He is loving his life in Indiana and is a great addition to the family. In the past year, he has been quite busy. This summer he won a third place medal for "Fastest Nose" in a contest at a local shelter fundraiser. He is enjoying his agility classes and receives a lot of praise from the instructor for how hard he tries. Our bond grows stronger every day, in fact he is turning into a Mama's boy. All in all, Calvin is a GREAT dog. Calvin is a good example of why people should take a look at the big black dogs, too!

I attached a few photos for your enjoyment.

Kristi
P.S. Calvin has a profile on Indy Paws and Dogster. Feel free to check them out.

BO (formerly Odie)

Just wanted to send you an update on Odie (now Bo.) We adopted him the first week of December, and boy do we LOVE him! He's been a great addition to our family, and now even his sister likes him! (It took her about a week to warm up to another pup in the house.) I've attached a few pictures for you to enjoy.

Bo has come a long way in just over a month. He no longer jumps on people as a greeting (rather, he sits and holds out his paw), and has learned to stay and roll over. He's doing much better on walks now that we have a Gentle Leader collar. He still gets a little too excited when new people come to visit, so we keep him on his leash until he can smell everyone, then he won't stop giving kisses and offering his paw. He's a very friendly boy, and so handsome. :) He charms everyone he meets with his Bo smile and waggy, stubby tail!

Bo spends his days going on walks, playing with his sister Brodie, playing with his toys (tennis balls and ropes are his favorites), devouring rawhide chews, and - his favorite - napping! He's also quite the cuddler - he likes hugs and he likes to snuggle, especially on the couch watching TV!

He's also put on some weight! He has an insatiable appetite, and he's adjusted well to his new food. He sure likes to drink water though - and slop it all over the kitchen!

Thank you so much for rescuing Bo from his situation. He's such a good boy who deserves all the love and attention he can get! He's still got some training to do, but he's well on his way. We can't imagine our lives without him. Thanks again for everything you do EVERYDAY for animals!

Sincerely,
Brad, Shannon, Brodie, and Bo McNutt

CARMEL (formerly Frodo)

(now Carmel, or Mel for short)
He is a Cardigan Welsh Corgi who was in your shelter for a short time in June 2007. Since he came into our home he has been a smart, cuddly clown that my husband and I both adore. We love taking him to doggie classes and to the dog park to play with friends. We are so happy to have him in our life!  Thank you for doing your best to help homeless pets!

WENDY & WENDELL

Just wanted to let you know that the dogs are doing fantastically!  They are so happy and love running and playing in the back yard.  They have made sure that everyone in the neighborhood knows them and fell in love with them immediately.

Thanks for helping us complete our family!

Ginny and Tom Segbers

HARRY

Hi, everyone at AAF. This is our happy and healthy Harry who we adopted at the end of March, 2008. We kept his new name because we thought it fit him. Harry is a remarkable dog. He came to us fearful of just about everything, so afraid he wouldn't even take a treat. We didn't even hear him bark until he was with us for 3 weeks! Then we knew he was starting to accept his knew home and us. Three months later we have a playful, happy, very intelligent, and loyal member of our family. He loves to go on walks and CAR RIDES! He now knows car rides can be fun, and we go to fun places, AND we come back home. We are so grateful to all of you at AAF for rescuing Harry so he could end up with us. We tell everyone he meets to go to AAF to get a pet. Be patient, consistent and loving and you'll have the best pet you ever wanted.
